The area between the ZKM and the Filmpalast cinema is known as the Human Rights Square. Formerly a war factory where forced laborers had to produce ammunition during World War II, the square now stands as a monument to peace where all people can gather. At the Human Rights Plaza, important state institutionsnamely art, culture, and lawcome together in the form of the ZKM, the University of Design, and the Federal Prosecutor's Office. One of the steles from the Basic Rights Plaza is also located here, creating a connection between the two plazas.
