Kleine Kirche

The Kleine Kirche (Small Church) is the oldest surviving church in Karlsruhe. It houses the old bell of the Schloßkirche (Castle Church) from 1717. Originally, it was a place of worship for the small Reformed congregation of the fan-shaped city. Later, the small church was used as a garrison church for the soldiers of the Grand Duke. #### Taucherbrunnen The so-called "Taucherbrunnen" – named after the sculptor Konrad Taucher and designed by him in 1905 – stands to the left in front of the Kleine Kirche, which forms a small square at this point due to a recess in Kaiserstrasse. The sculptor chose a boy drawing water as the central motif, thus referring to the fountain's function as a "source of life" – a popular theme in Art Nouveau. The bronze boy, finely crafted in his movement, contrasts with the massive, tall stone water basin, which is discreetly decorated with shells, garlands, and a ram's head. The fountain has survived the wars with only minor damage.
